"When the Guns Come Out"
It starts with two hillbilly honeys trying to buy Oxy from Dr. Stern, (Randolph Adams) Boyd's new pet doctor. One of them is Trixie, Limehouse's informant. Inside the clinic, Dr. Stern is being successfully persuaded to give the girls more Oxy than they have paper for. Tanner Dodd and friend pull up outside the clinic and stroll in with shotguns and shoot the idiot sitting guard.
The pair storm the doctors office, Tanner killing the doc and Trixie, while Ellen May hides under the desk. She see's both men through a gloryhole in the desk. Raylan is trying to track down Winona and asks Art for some time off. Art tells him he needs to see about the murder at the Oxy clinic first because it happened at his Aunt Helen's old home. Raylan is taking Winona's leaving pretty hard, for Raylan.
Ellen May is pressured by her pimp, Delroy (William Mapother) to go get some more pills to replace the ones lost during the robbery/murder. At the new clinic, she comes face to face with Tanner and Teddy and retreats, saying she doesn't really need anything. Boyd meets with Limehouse and asks questions about the hit on his doctor. Limehouse claims innocence in any of that and explains that he's reluctant to spread information that may or may not be about his banking clients. Boyd offers to move some money into the Holler as a show of good faith but Limehouse is non-committal about that.
He does give them a lead on Ellen May and Ava suggests getting info from her might come easier if a woman asked the questions. Arlo and Raylan have a Givens father/son moment. After a meeting with Boyd, and voicing his displeasure at his Aunt's house being used as an Oxy clinic, Raylan is directed to Ellen May where Ava is waiting. After beating her pimp and advising him to keep her safe, Raylan heads for the new clinic which shuts down when everyone realizes the cops are here.
A fight with Tanner inside the trailer gets complicated when an accomplice tries to drive the trailer away. A stray bullet to the neck makes it a short trip but Tanner bailed during the fight and even with a limp, somehow fled the scene before Raylan can get out of the trailer. Wynn Duffy reports to Quarles that Boyd's clinic was robbed and their own clinic was busted by Raylan. Quarles is thrilled by the news but misinterprets Boyd and Raylan's relationship. We also revisit the man tied to the bed in Quarles house and have many questions as to what that is about.
It turns out Limehouse's henchman (Demetrius Grosse) is the one who set up the robbery murder, for the purpose of starting a war between Crowder and Quarles. Limehouse is not pleased at all and reams him for it. He stops short of killing him and announces that he'll have a ringside seat for all the coming battles he'd put in motion. Raylan finally catches up to Winona at her sisters house. While she still very much loves Raylan, Winona has concluded he will never change even as he says he wants to. Raylan takes this as stoically as one expects Raylan would.
The Crowder/Quarles/Givens/Limehouse Battle Royale looms in the not-to-distant future. As bloody as the prelude has been, the final confrontation might just leave the Earth in Harlan County scorched for years to come.
