When you are a large Samoan man named Lem and you are blessed with witty friends, you end up with a nickname like Lemzilla. I have mentally retained most of the media I've been exposed to since 1967. That's my first recollection of movies, music and TV shows plus I'd just learned to read. And I read everything once I got rolling. Encylopedias, the newspaper, the ingredients and instructions for everything. And comic books. Lot's of comic books. Thank you cousin Ronald. RIP.
The music, TV and movie landscape in my formative years shifted quickly. And where it is now from where it was then, is a whole different zip code. But The Beatles and Elvis continue to sell music and consumer goods at rate almost equal to when they were active artists while John Wayne places in the Top 10 most popular actors lists and he's been dead since 1979, so some things have remained constant.
I'll cover a wide range of media without any particular rhyme or reason. This suprises no one who knows me. I'm an opiniated curmudgeon but I try not to be mean or crass unless there is some awesome comedic payoff or someone truly deserves it. I'm respectful of what artists go through to create and produce their art for the masses and asses. You know which one you are.
Doesn't mean I own a pair of kid gloves either though. My snark goes up to 11 and I'm not shy about laying it on when appropriate.
Things you should know about me:
1: I'm cranky that everybody claims The Watchmen is a great graphic novel, when it was actually a 12 issue comic book mini-series that I spent a year of my life following, collected in a trade paperback and retconned into being called a graphic novel.
2: The first five minutes of "Up" is breathtaking in it's simplicity and equal to the greatest love stories ever put to film by Hollywood. Because when *spoiler alert for a movie from 2009, if you haven't seen it, what the hell?* Ellie dies, your heart breaks if you have one. I can prove it, here:
3: I think "Battlestar Galactica" was better than "Lost". Each had insane moments that infuriated viewers but at the end of the day BSG wins. Tricia. Helfer. Naked.
4: I'm one of those annoying people who "likes all kinds of music" but has the playlist to prove it.
5: I own bunny ears and slippers and wear them in public. Because I am that badass.
I will endeavor to keep things interesting and entertaining. Thanks for reading.
